We’re already back in Malaysia after attending the Japan Mobility Show 2023 in Tokyo, but we have yet to share images of the Toyota Century SUV that we managed to see in person. Yes, the Toyota Century now has an SUV version which has been added to its lineup, and it debuted back in early September.
Almost resembling a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the Toyota Century SUV is designed with the “stately grandeur” theme. The headlights have a double-stack design and the Century SUV sports an elegantly designed grille with hexagonal elements. All around, the Century SUV on display sports a dual-tone paint job with its lower half finished in a brighter colour.

Around the sides, the Toyota Century SUV features normal-looking door handles and smooth body lines. There is little to no distractions on the sides, so you’re able to focus on just how majestic the side profile of the Century SUV is. With its B-pillars finished in gloss black, the window of the Century SUV has the appearance of a single piece of glass.
The prominent shoulder line of the Century SUV extends all the way to the back and empahsise the broad shoulders of the SUV. The shoulder line meets with the very thick C-pillar and we sort of get the idea of what the “stately grandeur” means.

Around the back, the taillights mirror the design of the headlights with a double stacked design as well. Perched on the tailgate is a “CENTURY” lettering and the proudly-displayed Century emblem. The Century sits rather low on its big set of wheels, and from certain angles it could even look like a a station wagon.
The highlight of the Century SUV has to be its second-row seats which come with features like fully-reclining rear seats, a “luggage compartment separate structure” with noise-reducing glass, and an audio system that provides a live performance-like listening experience.

Powering the Toyota Century SUV is a newly developed 3.5-litre V6 Series Parallel plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system. Paired with an E-CVT gearbox, power is sent to all four wheels via the brand’s E-Four Advanced all-wheel drive system. The new plug-in hybrid system is designed to function as a BEV for everyday use and as an HEV for long-distance travel, making it the ideal powertrain for a chauffeur-driven vehicle.
Toyota says that the Century SUV can be driven not only as a chauffeur car but also as a driver’s car as its motor and engine “provide powerful and exhilarating acceleration performance”.
The Toyota Century will be launched in Japan by the end of this year and the car will be built at Toyota’s Tahara plant. Toyota plans to sell 30 units of the Century SUV per month.
