BMW Group has achieved a new production milestone at its Regensburg plant- having built its 1,000,000th BMW X1. The milestone vehicle is specifically the carmaker’s smallest fully-electric SUV – the BMW iX1 in Alpine White. The BMW iX1 has also become the company’s first fully-electric model to have been produced at the brand’s Regensburg plant.
BMW Group’s Regensburg Plant Director, Carsten Regent said, “The BMW iX1 is proof that we can build highly attractive electric vehicles for the premium compact class at our plant in Regensburg. This a very popular car with customers around the world.”

“To meet different market requirements worldwide, we rely as a company on technological diversity. Specifically, here in Regensburg, we have the flexibility to produce different types of drive trains for the BMW X1 on a single production line – models with a combustion engine and plug-in hybrid systems, as well as with a pure electric drive train,” Regent added.
Starting from the end of this year, The German luxury carmaker’s Regensburg plant will be producing another fully-electric SUV – the BMW iX2 as well. “Electromobility is a growth driver for our plant. We are currently operating at full capacity and hope this trend will continue,” said Regent.

BMW produces a total of up to 1,000 units of the BMW 1 Series, BMW X1, and BMW X2 models at its Regensburg plant every single workday. The plant also produces various types of drivetrains on a single production line, which includes vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICE), plug-in hybrids (PHEV), as well as fully-electric (BEV) models.
BMW Group announced in March that it will be investing more than 350 million Euros in its Regensburg plant’s vehicle production by the end of this year. This will help create permanent jobs for around 500 new employees.

“We are still recruiting production staff for our plant. In November, we will add an additional night shift and transition to three-shift operation. We are already working extra shifts on certain Saturdays,” said BMW Group Plant Regensburg’s Head of Human Resources, Davide Vitolo.
In Malaysia, the 2023 BMW iX1 xDrive30 was just launched in May this year. Offered in a single variant only, the iX1 is currently sold at a price tag of RM285,800 (OTR, without insurance).
