MAA: Perodua sold the most cars (145k units) in H1 2023, followed by Proton, Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi



In a biannual report by Malaysia Automotive Association (MAA) today, the sales figures for all cars for the first half of the year were shared. The total industry volume for the first six months of the year was 366,037 units which is a 1.29% growth from the same period last year. Topping the charts is Perodua with 144,690 units sold.

For the first half of the year, Perodua saw 144,690 units sold which results in a 39.5% market share. Proton follows closely behind with 76,012 units sold and a 20.8% market share. This is followed by Toyota with 48,145 units (13.2% market share), Honda with 33,727 units (9.2% market share), and Mitsubishi with 11,811 units (3.2% market share).

Compared to the same period last year, Perodua saw a 14% growth from 127,343 units. As for Proton, the company saw a 32% growth (the largest in the top 5) from 57,402 units. Toyota, on the other hand, saw a 6% growth. While the top three companies report growth for the first six months of 2023, Honda and Mitsubishi sales reportedly shrunk by 15% and 6% respectively.

As for the total industry volume for the first six months of the year, the Malaysian automotive industry saw a peak in March with 78,894 units sold. It was the year’s highest monthly number. As for the trend, the TIV saw growth up to March due to the PENJANA incentives but later saw an immediate drop in April with 47,765 units sold. Sales later picked up again in May and June with 63,103 units and 62,569 units respectively.
