Mazda still sees plenty of strength in its compact Mazda 2 sedan and hatchback models, and with that, introduced a host of new features for the Thailand market.
This is the first update on the facelifted Mazda 2 design that was made available in Malaysia back in March 2020. To keep the model looking fresh amongst the highly competitive compact models in Thailand, Mazda is extending the Platinum Quartz light gold paintwork as an option for both sedan and hatchback.
Fans of Polymetal Grey can only select the sedan design to pair that unique colour with.
Among the key upgraded feature is the seven-inch Mazda Connect infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless smartphone charging pad and a first-in-segment- six-way powered driver’s seat with a two-position memory system.
All five variants of the updated 2022 Mazda 2 also get LED projector headlamps with automatic levelling, G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus), i-STOP and i-ELOOP start-stop system, a security system with burglar alarm and acoustic-glass windshield.
At the other end of the spectrum, the two higher variants, which are SP and XDL, get a 360-degree birds-eye view parking camera system and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The ‘S Leather’ variant in the middle gets the best mix of goodies such as gearshift paddles, head-up display, cruise control, the new powered driver’s seat and wireless charging pad.  Â
Although Mazda has increased its visible comfort, convenience and safety features, the compact sedan and hatchback models are still only equipped with just two airbags when competitors have already long offered up to seven airbags.
Being positioned as an Eco-Car in Thailand, the Mazda 3 comes with either a 1.3-litre SkyActiv-G engine with outputs of 93 hp and 123 Nm of torque or a 1.5-litre turbodiesel SkyActiv-D engine generating 105 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired to only a six-speed automatic transmission.
Mazda Thailand has not increased the prices of the 2022 Mazda 2 sedan and hatchback improved models, priced from THB546,000 (approx. RM68.6k) for the entry 1.3 E variant to THB690,000 (approx. RM87k) for the 1.3 SP variant and the range-topping high-torque 1.5 XDL variant at THB799,000 (approx. RM100k).
Bermaz Motor in Malaysia offers the Mazda 2 with a 1.5-litre engine (114 hp, 149 Nm) priced from RM103,670.
