Perodua and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) have formed a new collaboration through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) document exchange ceremony for the commencement of the Perodua-UTM xEV Engineering Programme.
Following up with the MoU signing back in 2025, UTM says the collaboration will now span five years and will focus on strengthening human capital and research in electric vehicle (xEV) technology to address the challenges of green mobility in Malaysia.
Between 10 to 15 outstanding students from the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honours programme will be selected each year to participate in this special programme. The students will undergo the programme for one and a half years, beginning from the second semester of their third year of study.
Selected students will undergo a 10-week industrial training at Perodua and will have the opportunity to obtain the Level three international certification from the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI). Perodua says it will provide technical equipment and two units of the Perodua QV-E for practical learning purposes at the Perodua-UTM xEV Engineering Laboratory.

As they progress, the students’ final year projects will be jointly supervised by engineers from Perodua to ensure research outcomes meet industry standards.
UTM Vice-Chancellor, Professor. Dr Mohd Shafry Abdul Rahim, said, “Through the establishment of the Perodua-UTM xEV Engineering Laboratory equipped with advanced facilities, our graduates will gain a strong competitive advantage.”

“The integration of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) engineering elective courses into the curriculum, along with access to the latest simulation technologies such as Hardware in the Loop (HIL) systems, will ensure UTM graduates remain relevant and future-ready,” he added.
Adding to those statements, Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, said, “This collaboration is not merely about technology transfer, but a long-term investment in producing future engineers skilled in electric vehicle engineering. With direct mentorship from our engineers, students will be exposed to the real-world demands of the modern automotive industry.”
