The upcoming BMW 7 Series facelift will come with an even more garish nostril grille

The seventh-generation BMW 7 Series is not what usually comes to mind when you think of good-looking cars. It’s not bad, mind you, but the divisive “nostril” grille is perhaps just a bit too garish for the G70 to be placed alongside the likes of the E30 or E46 3 Series. That, of course, isn’t stopping BMW from make it even more brazen on the upcoming 7 Series facelift.

BMW has just released its first teaser for the upcoming facelift – or life-cycle impulse LCI in BMW speak – of the BMW 7 Series, giving us a brief first look at the new model that’s set to debut sometime next month. And while it appears that the overall size of the grille hasn’t changed significantly, the tweaked profile have resulted in them taking up even more visual mass – never mind the Iconic Grille illuminated surrounds, which now envelope each “nostril” individually, highlighting them even more.

They continue to be flanked by the Swarovski crystals-lined light signature, which appear to have been slightly reprofiled here with a more horizontal alignment and a more angular inside edge. If anything, the new front end will most definitely grab one’s attention – especially when seen from the rearview mirror…

Not much else has been revealed so far, but we expect to see the marque’s latest tech and luxuries being incorporated into the flagship sedan, including the new Panoramic iDrive dashboard layout that made its debut on the Neue Klasse models such as the iX3 and the upcoming i3 sedan.

The upcoming BMW 7 Series LCI will also likely be offered with the same range of powertrain options, including six- and eight-cylinder engines, plug-in hybrid options, and all-electric versions under the i7 model plate. The latter should also come with improved range and performance courtesy to efficiency upgrades on its Gen6 electric powertrains.

Recent reports have also suggested that the upcoming 7 Series facelift will spawn a new ultra-luxurious Alpina B7, following BMW’s acquisition of the brand. This model will allegedly even carry its own internal codename (G72), and you can expect even more luxury and performance befitting the Alpina name, as BMW seeks to compete head-to-head against Mercedes-Maybach… if it looks good enough, that is.
