BMW is reportedly preparing to launch an all-new Alpina B7 based on the upcoming facelift of the BMW 7 Series (G70 LCI). According to BMWBlog, this will be the first Alpina model developed under the full ownership of the BMW Group.
The 7 Series (G70 LCI) facelift is expected to begin production in July 2026, with the Alpina variant scheduled to debut in late 2026. The rumoured B7 will also mark the first time an Alpina will be produced entirely by BMW, after the German carmaker acquired the tuning house that, uniquely, was recognised by the German Ministry of Transport as an automobile manufacturer.
Previously, despite Alpina’s close association with BMW, the cars were still only pre-assembled by BMW and then transferred to Alpina’s Buchloe facility for bespoke engineering and other finishing touches.
The all-new B7 will reportedly carry its own dedicated internal codename, the G72. This could suggests a departure from the “one-model” approach Alpina provided for outgoing generations, hinting at a broader range of variants for each model in the future.
It remains to be seen whether the new model will be branded as the BMW Alpina B7 or simply as the Alpina B7, representing the new sub-brand within the BMW Group.

Reports suggest the new B7 will be powered by a mild-hybrid variant of the 4.4-litre S68 twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 617 hp. This output surpasses the previous B7’s 591 hp, and also out-muscles the previous M760Li (G12), which produced 585 hp from its 6.6-litre V12.
For comparison, the most powerful petrol-powered variant of the current BMW 7 Series (G70) is the M760e xDrive. It produces 568 hp and 800 Nm from a 3.0-litre straight-six plug-in hybrid (PHEV) setup.
It also remains to be seen whether Alpina will develop a fully electric (EV) model. In a 2021 interview with Bimmer Today, Alpina CEO Andreas Bovensiepen noted that his customers showed little interest in electric vehicles (EV), citing a preference for high-speed, long-distance capability.
However, as Alpina is now fully acquired by BMW Group, that stance is expected to evolve. Should an EV variant of the B7 materialise, reports suggest it will adopt the i7 nomenclature, preserving the B7 nameplate previously used exclusively for internal combustion-powered cars.
It was also previously reportedly that BMW is planning a range of models aimed at filling the gap between high-end BMWs and Rolls-Royce. This could see Alpina being designated as a more exclusive, semi-bespoke alternative, focusing on flagship models like the 7 Series and the X7.
Closer to home, the BMW 7 Series (G70) is currently available in two variants. The first is the 750e xDrive M Sport, a PHEV producing 489 hp and priced from RM734,500. For those opting for full electrification, the fully electric i7 xDrive60 M Sport, priced from RM754,600, offers a range of up to 624 km (WLTP) from its dual-motor powertrain, delivering 544 hp (400 kW).
