Geely continues European conquest, arrives in Italy with EX5 EV and Starray EM-i PHEV

Geely is hitting the roads in Italy for the first time, introducing its electrified innovations to a nation with significant automotive history – and that’s already putting it lightly. Partnering with global automotive distributor Jameel Motors, the Italian debut marks an important step in the brand’s European expansion.

Geely’s debut in Italy consists of the Geely EX5 electric vehicle (EV) SUV (known as the Proton eMAS 7 in Malaysia) and the Starray EM-i PHEV (allegedly the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV) — allowing customers to choose from a choice of pure electric power or a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Geely has not yet revealed the full specifications of the EX5 or the Starry EM-i, but has quoted ranges of up to 425 km and 1,000 km, respectively, under WLTP testing standards. The range of the EX5 is slightly higher than Malaysia’s Proton eMAS 7, suggesting it may feature a larger battery, possibly from the updated Geely Galaxy E5 model sold in China.

To commemorate the brand’s entry into the country, Geely Italia is offering lifetime warranties (excluding the battery) to the first 1,000 customers, regardless of the model chosen. If the car is sold to a second owner, the warranty reverts to a more conventional six years or 150,000 km.

Geely Italia Managing Director, Marco Santucci, said, “Geely Auto’s arrival in Italy is far more than a commercial debut: it marks the beginning of a new cultural and technological journey. We believe in a mobility that combines quality, safety, beauty, and innovation, in line with Italy’s great design tradition. Our Technological Renaissance was created to place people at the centre and build real, lasting value.”

Geely Auto Europe Regional Director, Brett Soso, complimented the statement by adding, “Geely Auto’s arrival in Italy is more than a brand launch; it is a statement of belief that mobility can be smarter, greener, safer, and more human-centric. We are proud to begin a new Technological Renaissance in Italy, a chapter shaped by exceptional product quality, forward-thinking technology, and a deep appreciation for local culture and design.”
