The Geely Galaxy E5, the Chinese counterpart to the Proton e.MAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7), could soon be getting a new battery option that will enable a total driving range of 610 km (CLTC) range.
This is according to a new filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), which revealed a new 68.39 kWh battery option for the C-segment SUV.

The larger battery on the new Geely Galaxy E5 variant translates to a longer 610 km rated driving range, as opposed to the 530 km on the current furthest-reaching variant. Those figures are, of course, based on the more lenient CLTC test cycle – but the 15% increase in range should translate to approximately 470 km on the WLTP scale too.
That is a fairly significant jump over the 410 km on the Premium variant of the Proton eMAS 7, which comes equipped with the identical (larger) 60.22 kWh battery pack, and even more compared to the Prime variant with its 49.52 kWh pack and 345 km (WLTP) range.

Despite the increase in battery size, performance of the new long range Geely Galaxy E5 variant – also known as the EX5 for export markets – has remained unchanged, which also mirrors that of the Proton eMAS 7.
A front-mounted electric motor produces 218 hp and 320 Nm of torque across all variants, which translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds for the Prime, with the Premium taking slightly longer at 7.1 seconds due to its larger battery. Expect the century sprint times to raise even further with the larger battery pack of the new long-range variant, too.

Charging capabilities of the new variant has not been revealed yet, but it should AC charging should still remain at 11 kW. For DC charging, the Prime variant of the Proton eMAS 7 accepts 80 kW, while the Premium does 100 kW. As Geely targets a 20-minute fast charging time for 30-80% SoC, we expect the new larger battery variant to also support a higher DC charging speed too.
It’s unclear if the new variant will replace the previous 60.22 kWh battery pack, or would it be an additional ‘long range’ variant on top of the line-up. Either way, it could have implications for the Proton eMAS 7, as the car is currently stilled being assembled and imported from China – at least until the new new energy vehicle (NEV) plant gets up and running.
For now, the Proton eMAS 7 starts at RM105,800 for the Prime variant, and RM119,800 for the Premium variant. Both prices are on-the-road, excluding insurance.
