All-new Proton Saga awarded 4-star ASEAN NCAP rating

Following the launch of the all-new Proton Saga yesterday, the full ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries) safety assessment report has now been released. Tested under the outgoing 2021-2025 protocol, the nation’s new “People’s Car” received a four-star rating from the safety tests.

The all-new fourth-generation Proton Saga, tested mostly in its base Standard variant, achieved an overall score of 66.70 points in the tests. The score is broken down to 23.72 out of 32.00 points in the adult occupant protection (AOP) test, 38.17 out of 51.00 points in the child occupant protection (COP) test, 14.00 out of 21.00 points in the safety assist test, and 7.00 out of 16.00 points in the motorcyclist safety (MS) test.

On the adult occupant protection (AOP) test, the report states that the frontal occupant compartment of the all-new Proton Saga remained stable during the frontal offset test. However, the driver-side dummy recorded marginal protection for the chest area in both the frontal and side impact tests.

For those with children, the car’s 38.17-point child occupant protection (COP) score reflects adequate protection, with 24 out of 28 child restraint system (CRS) tests on the second-row seats meeting the assessment requirements. Younger children in rearward-facing CRS showed better results here with 12 points, compared to the 7.283 points for the three-year-old dummy in a forward-facing seat.

The all-new Proton Saga comes standard with two airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), a Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for both front occupants, and ISOFIX mounts for child seats.

On the Premium variant, the all-new Proton Saga is now available with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Auto High Beam (AHB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RTCA), and Lane Change Assist (LCA).

With a safety assist score of 14 points, the report notes that the safety systems of the all-new Saga performed in line with ASEAN NCAP’s requirements.

Under the 2021-2025 protocol, ASEAN NCAP strongly encourages the inclusion of motorcycle-related safety systems, reflecting the large number of motorcycles on regional roads. The all-new Proton Saga scored seven out of 16 points in this assessment, with ASEAN NCAP noting that its motorcycle safety features, such as AEB and BSD, performed as required.

Proton notes that the all-new Saga was the first national model to complete the motorcycle ADAS tests.

The all-new Proton Saga is priced from RM38,990 for the standard, RM44,990 for the executive, and RM49,990 for the Premium, on the road and without insurance. In conjunction with its recent launch, Proton is also offering a special launch rebate of RM1,000 along with special launch packages valid until 31st December.
