LEVC no longer just a taxi manufacturer, unveils L380 luxury EV MPV

London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC), previously known as The London Taxi Company, has unveiled its new L380 full electric MPV. The new people carrier is said to be the first of the company’s new range of fully electric vehicles, and will be the first model in the Geely Group line-up to be built on the all-new Space Oriented Architecture (SOA).

The debut of the L380 will also see LEVC – the company responsible for making fully electric London taxis – transitioning from a taxi manufacturer into a more traditional carmaker, focusing on “electric global mobility solutions”.

Like many other large MPVs out there, the LEVC L380 also wears a boxy outer shape to maximise interior space. Speaking of the interior, the LEVC L380 will be coming in either a six- or eight-seater layout.

No dimension-related specifications have been released for the LEVC L380 just yet. However, based on a report by Autocar, the SOA platform which the L380 is sitting on is capable of hosting EVs that range between 4,860 mm and 6,950 in length. Autocar also cited a Chinese media which suggested that the L380 could span 5,316 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,940 mm in height, while weighing 2,805 kg.

LEVC has yet to publish the L380’s full technical details either, but reports suggest that the LEVC L380 could feature the same 268 hp (metric) and 343 Nm front-mounted motor that is found in its cousin – the Volvo EM90. In contrast to the Volvo, however, the LEVC L380 will most probably be offered in a front-wheel drive (FWD) layout.

The company did mention that the SOA platform is capable of supporting all-wheel drive powertrains, featuring dual-motor set ups that can supply up to 536 hp. Battery-wise, the EV MPV could be powered by either a 73 kWh, a 102 kWh, or a 120 kWh battery pack that can deliver up to WLTP-rated ranges of 362 km, 491 km, and 574 km respectively.

The LEVC L380 will be made available first for the Chinese market in 2024, and will later be introduced to other markets. More details regarding the L380, including its technical specifications, will be revealed next year.
