Want a taste of the fastest production EV? Playstation owners rejoice – because you can soon drive the 3,019 hp BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme (U9X) in Gran Turismo 7.
The announcement, dubbed by BYD as the “first Chinese hypercar to take the track in Gran Turismo”, comes just six months after Xiaomi’s partnership with the publisher of the game, Polyphony Digital, which will similarly see the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra added to the game. Both cars are not available in-game yet, at the time of writing.
The U9X recently claimed the crown as the fastest production EV around the 20.832 km Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit, clocking a time of 6:59.157. This is approximately 5.8 seconds faster than the previous time of 7:04.957 set by a production Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.
That is made possible in part by the BYD Yangwang U9X’s four electric motors producing a whopping 3,019 hp in total, making the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s 1,548 hp Xiaomi SU7 Ultra sound puny in comparison – which, to be clear, is anything but.

The 3,019 horses on the U9X has also helped it claim several other records, including that of the world’s fastest production car, achieved at 496.22 km/h.
Neither BYD nor Polyphony Digital has announced a timeline for when the U9X will be available in Gran Turismo 7, but when it does arrive, will you try your hand at beating the 6:59.157 lap time around the Nurburgring Nordschleife?
