With over 5,000 units delivered in Malaysia within just 38 days of its launch, the all-new, second-generation Proton X50 has quickly claimed the top spot in the compact SUV segment. Following this achievement, Proton has taken a closer look at what drove the success — and who exactly are the people buying their latest SUV.
According to a survey by Proton, most buyers of the all-new, second-generation Proton X50 consisted of younger individuals, such as professionals, entrepreneurs, and executives in their 20s to mid-30s. More than half of the buyers purchased the X50 as a replacement car, while one in three transitioned from popular models such as the Perodua Myvi, Bezza, and Proton Saga.

Many of these buyers were also established family secondary drivers in their mid-40s to early 50s — viewing the car as an ideal additional household vehicle thanks to its versatility and practicality. First-time car buyers also say that the Proton X50 provides dependable reliability while offering great essentials for daily commutes.
Proton also noted that many buyers chose the new X50 for its improved performance. The second-generation model now packs a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 181 hp and 290 Nm, replacing the previous three-cylinder unit. Paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, it drives the front wheels and sprints from 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.

Inside, the new Proton X50 has been praised for its refreshed cabin design, which moves away from the previous fighter jet-inspired look in favour of a cleaner, more modern aesthetic reminiscent of the Proton eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7). Key highlights include a 14.6-inch floating centre-mounted infotainment display paired with a digital instrument cluster — the former being the first in the world to offer voice recognition in both Bahasa Melayu and English.
Other standout features include a comprehensive 360-degree surround view monitor with a 180-degree undercarriage transparent view, making parking and tight manoeuvres easier — especially for newer drivers.

Proton Edar, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Zhang Qiang, said, “We are thrilled with the overwhelmingly positive response from Proton X50 owners. Customer satisfaction has always been PROTON’s goal, and this feedback reflects the trust Malaysians place in our products. This inspires us to continue raising the bar, reinforcing the Proton X50’s position as the King of SUVs while setting new standards across all segments.”
The all-new, second-generation Proton X50 is priced from RM89,800 to RM113,300, offering a range of variants to suit different needs and preferences. Every purchase comes with a five-year unlimited mileage manufacturer warranty, a five-year data package (2GB per month), and six free labour services for added peace of mind.
