Did Perodua just reveal the launch date of their new EV?

While exploring the P-Vehicle page on Perodua’s new P-Circle mobile app, we found a countdown timer displayed with an image of the Perodua e-MO II Concept’s rear. It is ticking down to a specific date: Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Did Perodua just subtly reveal the launch date for its first-ever EV model?

While Perodua has remained silent on an official launch date, there’s a possibility the EV could launch even before the timer concludes, but either way, Perodua’s EV is slated for debut by December 2025.

Alternatively, the countdown could mark when the features in the P-Vehicle page become active. According to Perodua, these will only be available after the EV’s launch and will allow users to remotely control functions like starting the car, managing the air-conditioning, and locking or unlocking the doors through the app.

At the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, Perodua offered a final preview of its upcoming EV by showcasing a literal half-cut model. The preview suggests the yet-unnamed vehicle will be a B-segment SUV with a target price of RM80,000. This positions the Perodua SUV to compete directly with the upcoming Proton eMAS 5 (stylised as e.MAS 5), which is set to be a hatchback offered at a similar price point.

Perodua’s EV is reportedly a completely in-house clean sheet design, developed without the aid of the company’s long-standing technical partner, Daihatsu. In terms of performance, the EV model is targeted to have a range of 400 km (NEDC) and will support 60 kW DC fast charging.

The model is also set to debut several firsts for the company, including the use of hot press-formed steel in its construction and an advanced ADAS 2.0++ system. These advancements are key to Perodua’s goal of achieving a targeted five-star ANCAP safety rating.

A first in the local industry, Perodua will introduce a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme. Under BaaS, owners would pay a monthly fee of a “few hundred Ringgit” for battery use, according to Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

If the battery’s state of health falls below a set baseline at any time during the leasing period (even after the typical eight-year warranty), the pack can be replaced at a Perodua service centre free of charge. This service aims to remove the headache and long-term cost concerns of owning a high-voltage battery outright.

Zainal also shared a significant production update at the P-Circle app launch. He confirmed that pilot production for the EV has already started, with plans to eventually scale up to a targeted 2,500 units per month. He also stated that upon launch, the EV will only be available at specific, authorised Perodua showrooms.
