Perodua’s first electric vehicle (EV) is due to arrive at the end of the Year in December 2025, according to Sime Group CEO Datuk Jeffri Salim Davidson. In an interview with New Straits Times on Sime’s financial projection for 2025, Jeffri said that Perodua will also begin testing for their EV in June.
Jeffri adds that the Perodua’s upcoming EV has garnered positive feedback at car shows. The national carmaker first showed off the eMO concept in 2023, which was then followed up by the unveiling of the eMO-II concept – at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024).
“The EV space is where we see strong potential. The demand is growing, and we are positioning ourselves accordingly,” said Jeffri.
Perodua still has not given details of what specs their new EV will have. But based on the national carmaker’s ‘targeted’ specifications it revealed during KLIMS 2024, it will be a single motor affair at the front axle generating approximately 160 hp (120 kW) and 220 Nm of torque.
A targeted 400 km EV range in a single full charge will be made possible from a CATL-sourced 50-60 kWh lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) battery pack.
Pricing is still unknown for now, but we know that it will be priced under RM100,000 – as revealed by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, at the tabling of the 2025 national budget (Belanjawan 2025) in October last year.
Perodua has set a sales target of 345,000 units this year to reinforce its market leadership in Malaysia. Aside from the marque’s first electric vehicle, the national carmaker has also confirmed one brand-new “full model change (FMC)” model, and another a “minor change (MC)” facelift update will be unveiled in 2025.
