1,381 hp, 0-100 km/h in 3.1s: The new Zeekr 9X is a plug-in hybrid super SUV

Remember the Zeekr 9X that debuted back at the Shanghai Autoshow 2025? Positioned as Zeekr’s flagship SUV, it boasts an exterior so grand that some have dubbed it the “Hangzhou Bay Cullinan,” referencing its similarities to the Rolls-Royce SUV. Unlike its British counterpart, which packs a mighty V12 engine, the Zeekr 9X is equipped with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain.

Here, it features a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 279 hp, which is paired with three electric motors. The total system output is a whopping 1,381 hp, which propels the three-ton SUV from 0-100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 240 km/h.

This PHEV powertrain is paired with a 70 kWh battery pack—reportedly the largest ever fitted to a PHEV—that enables a pure EV range of 380 km under CLTC conditions. Thanks to its 900V architecture, the battery can be recharged from 20-80% in just nine minutes. A smaller 55.1 kWh battery pack will also be available, although its specifications were not disclosed.

To keep the vehicle’s heft in check, the Zeekr 9X is equipped with a 48V active anti-roll system to control the body when tackling corners, although this is probably tuned more for comfort rather than outright performance. Other suspension features include a dual-chamber air suspension, which enables the 9X to adjust its ground clearance by 110 mm, up to a maximum height of 288 mm.

Controlled by an onboard artificial intelligence (AI) system, it is reported that the Zeekr 9X can automatically switch between its various off-road modes, which include Snow, Deep Snow, Mud, Rocks, and Sand, according to CarNewsChina.

Inside, the Zeekr 9X is configured as a six-seater in a 2+2+2 layout, featuring second-row captain’s chairs. These come with your usual luxury creature comforts like powered leg rests and a zero-gravity recline feature.

For tech, although Zeekr has not revealed official specifications, a promotional video shows that the dashboard features a large central infotainment display, with the driver getting a digital instrument cluster. Rear passengers also appear to have access to a roof-mounted display.

On the safety front, the top-range Zeekr 9X is reportedly equipped with five LiDAR sensors powered by two Nvidia Drive Thor chipsets. This provides 1,400 Trillion Operations Per Second (TOPS) of computing power, enabling a suite of SAE Level 3 autonomous driving features. The entry-level Zeekr 9X will be equipped with a single Nvidia Drive Thor chip, which drops the computing power to 700 TOPS.

That’s about all Zeekr has revealed on the 9X ahead of its pre-sales in late August 2025 at the Chengdu Auto Show 2025. When it is launched sometime in Q3 2025, the Zeekr 9X could be priced in excess of RMB1 million in China (approx. RM587k).
