Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) has just updated the 992-generation Porsche 911 range in Malaysia for 2025, and it encompasses two iterations, headlined by the marque’s first electrified 911 variant in the form of the Carrera 4 GTS, and a base Carrera positioned below it.
The 992.2-generation of the Porsche 911 introduces electrification in the form of what Zuffenhausen dubs the T-Hybrid system. For starters, the 3.0-litre boxer six in its predecessor of the GTS has been bored and stroked to deliver a 3.6-litre mill.
Part of the electrification includes the new single turbocharger with an electric motor between the compressor and turbine wheels to quicken spool. It replaces the twin turbos from the outgoing model. Switching to an electric turbo also eliminates the need for a wastegate.
The motor in the turbo pulls double duty as a generator that runs off the exhaust gases, much like the MGU-H system in a Formula 1 car. In the 4 GTS, the system is capable of generating up to 15hp.
Porsche has also sandwiched another electric motor within the eight-speed PDK transmission. Both the motors are fed by a tiny 400V, 1.9 kWh. Total output is 540 hp and 610 Nm of torque, good for an incredible 0-100 kph sprint in 3.0 seconds flat and atop speed of 312 km/h.
For the first time, the 4 GTS gets rear-wheel steering as standard, while the sports suspension is 10 mm lower and matched with PASM variable damping.
Sitting below the 4 GTS is the base Carrera and it doesn’t miss out on some upgrades as well. Some bits from the Porsche parts bin sees the upgraded 3.0-litre twin-turbo boxer-six sport an intercooler from the 911 Turbo, and the snails from the 992.1 GTS. All in, that’s a solid 394 hp and 450 Nm of torque.
An eight-speed PDK transmission sends it all to the rear wheels. The important figures are a 3.9-second century sprint time and a top speed of 294 km/h.

Just as significant as the introduction of electrification to the 911 is the first fully digital 12.6-inch instrument cluster. However, in the name of nostalgia, one of the multiple views includes the classic five-circular-gauge layout with a central tachometer.
Another marked departure with the facelift is the elimination of the twist-key starter, replaced by a standard push-start button. While features such as these and the semi-digital instrument cluster might seem menial in the grand scheme of things, they nonetheless helped preserve a sense of traditionalism and heritage in an automotive icon.

Completing the interior is a 10.9-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and independent usage of Spotify or Apple Music.
From an exterior perspective, the 992.2 includes an optional HD matrix LED headlight that can throw a 600-metre beam.
While the base Carrera can only be had in a coupe bodystyle, the 4 GTS can be had in Targa form. Prices start from RM 1.43 million.
