Ever wondered how C-segment SUVs do in a drag race? Here’s a video for your viewing pleasure and curiosity. In episode two of our latest drag race series, We’re pitting the Proton X70, Honda CR-V, and the Jaecoo J7 head-to-head in a drag race in a dash to the finish line – settling once and for all which of the three SUVs are the best (in a very specific use case).
As always, all three SUVs were fuelled with PETRONAS Primax 97 with Pro-Race. The specially-formulated fuel not only removes 99.9% of carbon deposits found in the engine, it also provides a more responsive, efficient, and powerful drive thanks to its Advanced Dual Friction Modifier, which means we are able to extract every ounce of performance from these family SUVs!
You’ll have to watch the video for the full results, but here’s how they compare on paper. The Proton X70 is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 177 hp and 255 Nm, powering the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Proton says this translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 9.8 seconds.
The Jaecoo J7 meanwhile gets a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 194 hp and 290 Nm, mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain for a century sprint in 9.9 seconds.

As for the Honda CR-V, it is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine featuring the legendary VTEC system, producing 193 hp and 243 Nm, paired with a CVT gearbox and an AWD drivetrain, propelling it to 100 km/h from a standstill in 10.4 seconds. Will VTEC help the Honda CR-V triumph over its two competitors?
So, which of the three will emerge victorious in both drag races? Will it be the national brand, the VTEC-equipped family cruiser, or the “cool hunter” from China? Watch our video to find out!
