Chery Tiggo Cross previewed in 2025 Bangkok motor show – 1.5L hybrid for Thailand, Malaysia too?

Fresh off its Indonesian launch last month, the Chery Tiggo Cross (called the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro in other places) makes its appearance at the 46th Bangkok International Motor Show 2025 (BIMS) – with a very different powertrain underneath its skin.

Unlike the car in Indonesia, the model previewed at Chery’s BIMS 2025 booth features a hybrid engine instead, consisting of a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine, paired to an electric motor and a small 1.8 kWh battery pack. Altogether, the hybrid powertrain generates a max output of 190 hp and 370 Nm of torque, translating to a 0-100 km/h time of 10.8 seconds.

For comparison, the Chery Tiggo Cross in Indonesia runs on a petrol-only 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four engine connected to a CVT transmission, which puts down 116 hp and 138 Nm of torque. The model is also available in other markets with a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four mill plus a dual-clutch gearbox, offering 147 hp and 210 Nm.

The Chery Tiggo Cross has recently been spotted in camouflaged around Malaysia, hinting at an imminent launch of the compact crossover. Chery Malaysia has also previously teased the arrival of the model, stating that “something more affordable for the rakyat” under the RM100k watermark will be launched in the country last year – although that timeline clearly has shifted slightly.

It’s unclear which powertrain those camouflaged test mules were running, although if we had to guess, the 1.5-litre turbo-four would seem like the most obvious choice, given that it’s also shared with the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, which is already being locally assembled here in Malaysia.

The Chery Tiggo Cross is approximately similar in size to the Perodua Ativa – standing at 4,320 mm in length and 1,831 mm in width. The wheelbase is also longer than the Ativa’s at 2,610 mm. As part of its facelift update, the Tiggo Cross also sports a new front grille, Tiger Claw LED headlights and Tiger Stripes taillights, in addition to sitting on 17-inch alloy wheels.

The inside sees a single panel that stretches from the centre over to the driver’s side, housing both a 10.25-inch centre infotainment display and 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster.
