Perodua’s record-breaking 2024 not only helped cement its top-dog position in Malaysia with 358,102 cars sold last year, it has also lifted it ahead of Honda to become the second-largest carmaker in ASEAN by sales volume for passenger cars.
The achievement was revealed in a presentation yesterday detailing its 2025 performance forecast, for which the second national carmaker is expecting a slight downturn in sales next year due to its planned production upgrade works.
Toyota still holds the top spot in ASEAN by a significant margin (714k units), but Perodua was notably the only marque among the top three to have a positive growth in sales volume last year; Toyota saw a decrease of 5% in sales (from 752k units in 2024), while Honda’s sales performance in 2024 also fell by 13.7% in the region to now 303k (from 351k).
Meanwhile, national compatriot Proton holds steady at fifth place with 148k units sold in 2024. Proton has previously proclaimed its goal of becoming the “third best-selling brand in ASEAN” by 2027.
Other marques in the top-10 rankings within the ASEAN region include:
- Toyota – 714k units
- Perodua – 358k units
- Honda – 303k units
- Mitsubishi – 200k units
- Proton – 148k units
- Daihatsu – 107k units
- Suzuki – 66k units
- Mazda – 64k units
- BYD – 52k units
- Ford – 45k units
In addition to setting an all-time sales record, Perodua also recorded its highest production volume in its 30-year history with 368,100 cars produced in 2024, representing a 7.2% increase.
