2025 BMW iX facelift gets more power, longer range, and updated looks

The BMW iX has been out for about five years now, which means it’s time for a facelift. For 2025, the German juggernaut’s electric vehicle (EV) is getting a facelift update that’s more than just a prettier look. It also comes with new electric powertrains that’ll send the sports activity vehicle (SAV) further and faster.

The exterior looks of the 2025 BMW iX have been given a nip and tuck as part of the facelift update. The giant kidney grilles are still there, now highlighted even more with the “Iconic Glow” surrounds, paired to new designs on the solid panels.

The most striking part that sticks out almost immediately is the redesigned adaptive LED headlamps, with a light signature more akin to the updated G20 BMW 3 Series and the G60 BMW 5 Series. The bumpers have also been re-profiled with a more vertical design, with the rear bumper now housing the reverse lamp.

The 2025 BMW iX facelift will be available globally in three variants, with name changes across the board compared to their pre-facelift counterparts to reflect their updated powertrains. The xDrive40 is now the xDrive45, xDrive50 is now the xDrive60, and the top-of-the-line M70 xDrive will now replace the iX M60.

The xDrive45 now has 408 hp (300 kW) and 700 Nm with a 5.1-second 0-100 km/h time, while the xDrive60 has 544 hp (400 kW) and 765 Nm with a 0-100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds. Meanwhile, the M70 xDrive is rated for 659 hp (485 kW) and 1,100 Nm (with Launch Control) with a 3.8 second sprint time from 0-100 km/h.

Comparing it with pre-facelift numbers, the xDrive45 is now 82 hp more powerful than the outgoing xDrive40. The same goes for the xDrive60 with a 21 hp bump over the outgoing xDrive50. The M70 xDrive also has gained 40 hp more horsepower than its predecessor the iX M60.

Despite their higher outputs, the rated top speed for all variants remain unchanged from before. Both the xDrive45 and xDrive60 has a top speed of 200 km/h. For the performance-oriented M70 xDrive, it has a top speed of 250 km/h.

Range-wise, the xDrive45 has a WLTP-rated EV range of 602 km, 177 km more than the xDrive40. Meanwhile, the xDrive60 can go the furthest with a 701 km WLTP range, 71 km more than the previous xDrive50. This leaves the fastest of the trio which is the M70 xDrive with 600 km of WLTP range that is 39 km more than the pre-facelift iX M60, but the shortest among the facelifted variants.

The increased ranges are courtesy of the new silicon carbide inverters, as well as more power-dense batteries, packing more capacity in the same physical size thanks to new battery cell technology.

On that note, the xDrive45 receives a new larger 94.8 kWh (net usable) battery pack compared to the xDrive40’s 76.6 kWh; the xDrive60 gets 109.1 kWh (net usable), and the M70 xDrive has 108.9 kWh (net usable) – both of the latter from a slightly larger gross battery pack at 113.4 kWh and 112.8 kWh respectively (compared to 111.5 kWh previously).

All variants support 22 kW AC charging that goes from 0-100% in five hours for the xDrive45 and five hours and 45 minutes for both xDrive60 and M70 xDrive. When using DC charging, the xDrive45 goes from 10-80% in 34 minutes with 175 kW fast charging, while the xDrive60 and M70 xDrive does the same in 35 minutes with 195 kW fast charging.

Moving to the inside, the 2025 BMW iX facelift now gets the Atelier design package as standard, consisting of a hexagonal steering wheel, as well as M multifunction seats with Sensatec and leather upholstery. The Live Cockpit Professional setup is also now standard, and comes with a heads-up display and Augmented View function.

Dominating the centre of the dashboard is the 12.3-inch digital dashboard and 14.9-inch touchscreen, powered by BMW Operating System 8.5 for its infotainment system. The touchscreen system is complete with QuickSelect, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, BMW Maps, software updates via over-the-air (OTA), BMW ConnectedDrive, BMW ID, My BMW App telematic, and more.

Currently, Malaysia has two pre-facelift BMW iXs from BMW Malaysia’s offerings. The cheapest variant, the iX xDrive50, starts at RM499,000 while the iX M60 goes for RM613,000, both inclusive of the BMW Service & Repair Inclusive (BSRI).
