Who says electric vehicles (EVs) have to be boring? Well, that was exactly the question SAIC Motor Malaysia asked when they launched the MG Cyberster – a two-seater electric roadster – at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2024).
The MG Cyberster is available in a single variant at launch, priced at RM319,900. And just to demonstrate how serious they are about being unserious, it’s even got a pair of scissor doors – just like what you’d find on a Lamborghini!
The MG Cyberster in Malaysia is powered by a pair of electric motors, giving it all-wheel traction. Together, the motors make 544 hp (400 kW) and 725 Nm of torque, good enough for a century sprint time of under 3.2 seconds, onward to a top speed of 201 km/h.
Juicing the motors is a 77 kWh battery pack, which gives the EV roadster a WLTP-rated range of 444 km. To charge, it’ll take DC power at up to 144 kW, which will take roughly 38 minutes to go from 10-80%. Alternatively, an on-board 7 kW AC charger means it’ll go from 10-100% in about 10.5 hours when charging a home.

The Cyberster’s main attraction is obviously its bodystyle, but there’s also a couple of unique design touches that will appeal to even those who still remember MG as Morris Garages, like the shark nose front fascia and sweeping body lines inspired by the MGB Roadster of yore, and the taillights at the back that mimics the Union Jack, as a nod to its British roots.
It’s luxuriously equipped, too, with the 20-inch wheels, two-tone Nappa leather upholstery, and an extensive suite of advanced driver assistance features all coming as standard. The only question, then, is if you can accept your great Brotish roadster in electric flavour…
