For those bemoaning that the Mazda CX-5 is getting too old, well, Bermaz Motor has heard your complaints. The company today showcased the all-new Mazda CX-60 at the ongoing 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2024), serving as a preview before the model is officially launched here in Malaysia.
Bermaz did not reveal much about the model nor its expected launch dates, but since it’s now on display at the show, we’re guessing it’ll be launched sometime in 2025.
The Mazda CX-60 is part of the marque’s latest Large Product range of SUVs, designed as a more upmarket offering to rival the likes of the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Volvo XC60, and that’s why its dimensions are also pretty much right in line with the others, measuring 4,740-4,745 mm long (depending on variant), 1,890 mm wide, and 1,680 mm tall, with a wheelbase spanning 2,870 mm.
Uniquely, the Mazda CX-60 is built on the latest Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, which is designed with a longitudinal engine layout and rear-wheel drive in mind. And perhaps even more interestingly, it was also designed alongside the marque’s latest inline-six engines, and hence the long bonnet up front.
On that note, the Mazda CX-60 is available with a wide variety of powertrain options, depending on the market. Bermaz hasn’t revealed which of these would eventually make its way into Malaysia, but looking at our nearest neighbours, possibilities include a 3.3-litre mild hybrid turbocharged inline-six petrol engine with 284 hp and 450 Nm, a 3.3-litre inline-six turbodiesel mild hybrid making 254 hp and 550 Nm, or a 2.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder mill with 188 hp and 250 Nm.
The CX-60 comes in either all-wheel or rear-wheel drive configurations depending on variant, but no matter the engine, all are paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Globally, the CX-60 is also available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four engine, an electric motor, and a battery pack, giving it a total system output of 327 hp and 500 Nm.
With an electric capacity of 17.8 kWh, Mazda says that the CX-60 PHEV is able to travel for around 60 km on pure electricity. Recharging will take approximately 1.5 hours using an AC input of 7.2 kW.

Design wise, the Mazda CX-60 spotlights the marque’s latest iteration of its Kodo design language that emphasises on “strength, intelligence, and elegance”. The highlight here is the bolder front fascia, characterised by the narrower 3D headlights and massive front grille.
Like all Mazda cars, the interior is suitably dressed up with premium-grade materials, including two-tone leather upholstery, roughout leather on the dashboard, and open-pore wooden veneers. The CX-60 is a five-seater SUV model, albeit a fairly large one.
While Bermaz has not revealed any official specifications for our Malaysian model, the preview model here should give us a hint at what to expect, including large 12.3-inch screens, which Bermaz says will offer “a range of advanced connectivity features”.
