The latest ocean-themed electric vehicle from BYD, the BYD Sealion 7, has launched in Malaysia. It is offered in two variants, Premium and Performance. Pricing for the BYD Sealion 7 starts at RM183,800 on-the-road without insurance.
The BYD Sealion 7’s size is almost identical to the Tesla Model Y and Xpeng G6. Measuring 4,830 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm.
As the SUV counterpart to the BYD Seal, the BYD Sealion 7 features BYD’s signature Double-U LED headlights and the Dynamic Water Drop LED tail light, as seen on its sedan sibling.
Inside, the BYD Sealion 7 sports a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment display supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The driver gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster display. It also boasts an illuminated dashboard panel with dynamic light movement featuring a variety of colours.
The two variants of the BYD Sealion 7 are virtually identical except for the different rim sizes, tyre choice, performance and range. The Premium variant features a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 313 hp (230 kW) and 380 Nm. It comes with 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Continental Eco Contact tyres.

The Performance variant, meanwhile, boasts a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup delivering a more potent 530 hp (390 kW) and 690 Nm, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds and comes with 20-inch wheels of the same design wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres.
Both variants are equipped with the same 82.5 kWh battery pack, giving them an NEDC-rated range of 567 km (Premium) and 542 km (Performance) respectively. The BYD Sealion 7 supports AC charging of up to 11 kW and DC charging up to 150 kW. This translates to a charging time of 32 minutes from 30-80%.
Pricing for the BYD Sealion 7 Premium variant is RM183,800. The BYD Sealion 7 Performance variant is priced at RM199,800. Prices are on-the-road without insurance. Included with the price is a six-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty guaranteeing at least 70% battery health, and an eight-year/150,000 km warranty for the electric drive unit.
