Sime Darby Beyond Auto has launched the BYD Sealion 7, a fully electric SUV in Malaysia. The first to be launched in within the Asia-Pacific region, it is offered in two variants, Premium and Performance, with pricing starting at RM183,800 on-the-road without insurance.

The BYD Sealion 7 measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm, making it almost similar in size with the Xpeng G6 and Tesla Model Y. Although the Xpeng is significantly cheaper, starting from just RM166k with the same range offering.
The Sealion 7 Premium comes with 19-inch wheels paired with Continental Eco Contact tyres, whereas the Performance comes with 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres. Four colours are available, Cosmos Black, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey and Shark Grey.
Standard exterior equipment for the BYD Sealion 7 includes:

Inside, the BYD Sealion 7’s interior features prominently a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment display supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The driver gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster display. Boot space is 500 litres with all seats up and can be expanded to 1,769 litres. Storage space in the frunk is 58 litres.

The BYD Sealion 7 is offered in two powertrain options here in Malaysia. The Premium variant features a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 313 hp (230 kW) and 380 Nm for the rear wheels. The Performance variant meanwhile boasts a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup delivering a more potent 530 hp (390 kW) and 690 Nm, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds.
Equipped with an 82.5 kWh battery pack, the BYD Sealion 7 has a NEDC-rated range of 567 km (Premium) and 542 km (Performance) variants. The BYD Sealion 7 supports AC charging of up to 11 kW and DC charging up to 150 kW. This translates to a charging time of 32 minutes from 30-80%. Additionally, it offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing you to power external devices.
The Sealion 7 utilises BYD’s proprietary Blade Battery. This battery system is designed to withstand high impacts and extreme conditions such as compression, bending, heating up to 300 degrees and overcharging by 260% without causing a fire or explosion.
In terms of safety, the BYD Sealion 7 is equipped with nine airbags and is equipped with the brand’s suite of advanced driver safety assistance systems (ADAS), which includes:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Lane Departure Prevention (LDP)
- Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA)
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

To recap, the BYD Sealion 7 is offered in two variants, priced at RM183,800 for the Premium variant and RM199,800 for the Performance variant on-the-road without insurance. The BYD Sealion 7 comes with a six-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty guaranteeing a state of health above 70%, as well as an eight-year/150,000 km warranty for the electric drive unit.
In conjunction with the launch of the BYD Sealion 7 in Malaysia, a special early bird promotion is available for customers who book a BYD Sealion 7 by November 17th 2024. This exclusive offer includes a complimentary home charger and RM800 in charging credits with their purchase. Customers who register their cars by December 31st 2024 are entitled for this promotion.
Additionally, BYD and Sime Darby Motors have also introduced a special trade-in programme for existing BYD owners, allowing them to upgrade to the new BYD Sealion 7. This programme recognises the loyalty of over 11,000 BYD customers.
