Honda Malaysia has announced a new product recall involving approximately 3,600 units of the Civic, Civic Type R, and CR-V. The recall exercise is in relation to a steering issue, and affects the 11th-gen Honda Civic (2022-2024 model year), FL5 Civic Type R (2023-2024 model year) and sixth-gen CR-V (2024 model year).
According to a press release by the company, the worm wheel located within the Electric Power Steering (EPS) gearbox of these cars may swell and reduce grease film thickness, causing abnormal steering noise or sticky steering.
All affected customers will be informed via notification letters, which will include further details on the recall exercise. Owners can also obtain further information or check their vehicle status in regards to the recall exercise by calling Honda Malaysia’s toll-free number at 1800-88-2020, or log on to the recall website at productrecall.honda.com.my.
Honda Malaysia urges all customers involved to contact any authorised dealer to make an appointment upon receiving the notification, to have their vehicles inspected and repaired if required. The cost of inspection, repair, and replacement of the affected parts will be beared fully by the company, with replacement stock to be available in stages starting December 2024.
Honda Malaysia apologises for the inconvenience caused to affected customers, but maintains that the “proactive product update” is necessary as customer safety is the company’s top priority. All other current production and selling models are not affected by the recall exercise.
