2024 MINI Cooper S launched in Malaysia, RM290k – Cooper SE petrol counterpart

Alongside the MINI Cooper SE and Countryman, the new 2024 MINI Cooper S (F66) with the petrol engine has also been launched in Malaysia with a price tag of RM290,288 on the road, without insurance including the extended warranty and service package. The new MINI Cooper S that is launched here is essentially a facelift that was built to stay updated with the design of the new MINI Cooper Electric SE, despite carrying over the same petrol engine as before.

On the outside, the Cooper S is a heavily revised version of the F56 generation. While inspired by the new MINI Electric SE’s design, the 2024 MINI Cooper S retains the older chassis. This distinction becomes evident in several body panels. For example, the front bumper on the Cooper S sits lower than the headlights, unlike the Cooper SE. Additionally, the Cooper S’s hood fully surrounds the circular headlights, contrasting with the Cooper SE’s design. Even the front camera for the 360° view system has a different shape on the Cooper S.

A new set of 18-inch wheels further enhances the refreshed look. However, the most striking change might be the taillights. While adopting a new “triangular” design, they still managed to retain the MINI’s signature Union Jack theme.

The MINI Cooper S is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 204 hp and 300 Nm. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and all power is also sent to the front wheels only. It provides a faster 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.6 seconds.

Further performance details of the 2024 MINI Cooper S are as follows:

  • Engine: 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-4
  • Max. Power: 204 hp
  • Max. Torque: 300 Nm
  • Transmission: 7-speed DCT
  • Drivetrain: Front-wheel drive
  • 0-100 km/h: 6.6 seconds

The cabin of the 2024 MINI Cooper S receives a revamp. The infotainment system features a new circular head unit with a larger touchscreen display that extends closer to the edges. The new head unit utilizes OLED technology and runs the latest MINI Operating System 9. Furthermore, the Cooper S adopts the same redesigned steering wheel found in its electric counterpart. The “third spoke” is a fabric element rather than a structural component. Another notable change is the gear selector, which is now replaced by a toggle switch located beneath the central infotainment screen. A traditional gear selector is no longer present.

To recap, the fifth-generation MINI Cooper S has finally been launched in Malaysia with a price tag of RM290,288 on the road, without insurance including the extended warranty and service package Additionally, the MINI Cooper S comes with a 2-year unlimited mileage warranty.
