During the launch of Proton’s EV brand, e.MAS last month, it was confirmed that the brand’s first electric vehicle (EV) will be launched by the end of this year (2024). A quick look at MyIPO’s page suggested that exactly a day after the e.MAS brand launch (June 13, 2024), Proton has filed seven trademark applications on MyIPO for what seems to be its first all-electric model, the Proton “e.MAS7”.

The trademark filing applications for the Proton e.MAS7 were filed under seven different classifications of goods and services, on June 13, 2024. The specific classifications are as follows:

According to various sources of Funtasticko, several Proton dealership representatives were sent by Proton to China a couple of months ago to test drive the Geely Galaxy E5 EV SUV. Although the model tested was still in left-hand drive (LHD) form, the Proton e.MAS EV based on it will be a right-hand drive (RHD) unit and is said to be retailed under the RM120,000 price tag. Whether this will be true, only time can tell.
For context, the Geely Galaxy E5, which is rumoured to be the car Proton’s first EV will be based on, is priced between RMB130,000 (approx. RM84,365) and RMB140,000 (approx. RM90,854).

The Geely Galaxy E5 made its global debut at Beijing Motor Show 2024. Built on Geely’s GEEA 3.0 platform with cell-to-body (CTB) integration, the car measures 4,615 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width, and1,670 mm in height, with a 2,750 mm long wheelbase, making it about the same size as the Honda CR-V.
Powering the Galaxy E5 is a front-mounted single-motor setup that makes 160 kW (218 hp metric). Two battery size options are offered with the Galaxy E5, namely a 49.52 kWh and a 60.22 kWh unit, which can provide the EV SUV with CLTC-rated driving ranges of 440 km and 530 km respectively. It looks like we are now another step closer to witnessing the birth of Proton’s and possibly even Malaysia’s very first EV.
