Suzuki Swift Sport and Jimny to be discontinued in UK by 2025, making way for EVs

Loved by many as it serves as a great entry-level hot hatch, the Suzuki Swift Sport will be discontinued in the United Kingdom as early as 2025 (or sooner if dealer stock depletes). This sad news also comes together with the soon-to-happen discontinuation of the Suzuki Jimny in the United Kingdom.

The departure of these 2 models will make way for more electrified options from Suzuki to comply with all UK and EU legislations fully. Besides the Swift Sport and Jimny, Suzuki will also axe the Ignis and Swace.

Jimny Rhino Edition in Malaysia

The models that will be taking the places of the discontinued Swift Sport and the likes are the hybrid versions of the Swift, Vitara, S-Cross, and Across PHEV. So not all hope is lost for the famous Swift in the United Kingdom as it will still live on in its warmer versions.

According to Suzuki GB Director, Dale Wyatt, “The departure of these models will make room for EV and enable us to compete during a period where our sales ratio of hybrid versus EV products will drive our business. We’re exiting the ICE era with a focus on SUVs and new Swift, then starting in the second half of 2025 we’ll begin a period of EV growth.”

Suzuki eVX

Suzuki is also set to introduce its first electric car in the United Kingdom as early as 2025. In October 2023, Suzuki debuted the Suzuki eVX concept at the Tokyo Motor Show. The eVX is a robust little SUV that is about the size of Toyota’s bZ3x.

In Malaysia, both the Suzuki Swift Sport and the Suzuki Jimny are officially available. The Swift Sport is only available with an automatic transmission while the Jimny is available in a standard guise as well as a special “Rhino Edition” which adds some interesting decals. Both cars have yet to be discontinued in our market.
