Geely is teasing the Ridara RD6 electric pickup truck for Thailand that will debut in November. Riddara is an international pickup truck company which is owned by Radar Auto, and Radar Auto is a subsidiary of Geely Holding.
It seems that Geely is entering Thailand not with Proton, but instead with a more Thai-oriented vehicle in the form of the fully-electric Riddara RD6 pickup truck. And being electric is not the only thing that makes the Riddara RD6 odd – it is also built on a monocoque chassis, so think of it as something like the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

Based on Riddara’s global website, the Riddara RD6 is only offered with a rear-wheel drive setup that puts out a peak power output of 200 kW (272 hp metric) and a peak torque of 384 Nm. This allows for a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.3 seconds.
Unfortunately, no four-wheel drive versions are listed on the official website. Combined with the monocoque chassis of the RD6, it seems to be more of a soft, lifestyle-oriented pickup truck instead of a true workhorse like the usual Hilux/D-Max/Triton.

Also listed on Riddara’s official website are two battery sizes for the RD6 – 63 kWh and 86 kWh. The smaller battery provides a CLTC range of 385 km while the larger battery provides a range of 517 km (also on the CLTC protocol).
As for charging, the maximum DC charging rate is not mentioned on the site, but Riddara claims that both versions of the truck should take about 30 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC). The spec sheet of the Riddara RD6 also suggests a maximum AC charging rate of 7 kW only. Thus it will take 7.9 hours or 11 hours to charge the small and large batteries respectively from 20% to 100%.

If the Riddara RD6 looks familiar to you on the outside, that’s because it shares the same underpinnings as the Geely Haoyue or the Proton X90. Its dashboard also looks similar to the X90’s. With the lift of subsidies for diesel, would you consider an EV “truck” like the Riddara RD6?
