4th-gen Suzuki Swift debuts with mild hybrid 1.2L 3-cyl, CVT, optional AWD

First showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 as a concept just a month ago, the fourth-generation Suzuki Swift has finally made its global debut. Nothing much has been changed here, except for some things on the front and rear bumpers, the addition of a rear fog lamp, as well as the lack of the sporty-looking body kits that were seen on the concept model. Thus, the concept could have previewed the upcoming Swift Sport instead.

On the outside, the fourth-gen Suzuki Swift now looks more mature than ever, sporting a clamshell-like bonnet and a slightly rounded front grille. Its front fascia is now flanked by a set of headlights that now sit lower than before, with L-shaped daytime running lights (DRL) integrated inside of it.

The Suzuki logo has also been repositioned from the front grille to the top of the bonnet. Colour-wise, the fourth-gen Swift is available in eight single-tone options and four dual-tone options. The Japanese hatchback is also debuting with two new colours – Frontier Blue Pearl Metallic and Cool Yellow Metallic.

At the rear, the new fun-to-drive hatchback is fitted with a set of “smoked” rear lights, which give it a rather sporty look. Like the front, it is still overall recognisable as a Swift, but now with a more angular shape.

Under the hood is the 12V Mild hybrid system that sports a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine paired with a CVT gearbox, which Suzuki says features “improvements all around, combining enhanced fuel economy and reduced emissions”.

If you’re living in a country that snows, Suzuki is also offering the Swift with its AllGrip Auto AWD system as an option. This can help with providing additional traction for driving on snow-covered roads or other slippery surfaces.

Moving inside, the fourth-gen Suzuki Swift has received a rather significant makeover. It now sports a new floating 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The knob-type aircon controls from the previous generation model have also been replaced with a more modern digital one.

On the safety front, the Swift is equipped with advanced safety features such as Dual Sensor Brake Support II (DSBS II), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Driver Monitoring System (DMS), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Other features such as Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) are also included.

The fourth-gen Suzuki Swift will go on sale in the UK in Spring 2024, with details of further technical specifications and standard equipment to be announced in due course. Closer to home, the Suzuki Swift is only available in the form of the Swift Sport. It is fully imported (CBU) from Japan and is available at RM145,900 (OTR, without insurance). The Suzuki Swift Sport Silver Edition has also been launched in Malaysia back in October, carrying the same price tag.
