Tesla teases 3 new models, to include more affordable offerings?

Tesla fans, rejoice! Elon Musk, the CEO of the company teased three new models it is planning to launch in the near future during an annual shareholder meeting held just this morning.

This is certainly great news for the American electric vehicle (EV)-maker as its lineup is certainly ageing and needs some new models to spark excitement and help expand its customer demographics. This is apart from the company’s alien-looking Cybertruck and the Model 3 “Highland” facelift that was introduced last year. Also, Musk seems rather elated after the company’s shareholders gave the green light to his massive $56 billion (approx. RM264 billion) pay package. Well, who wouldn’t right?

Tesla Model 3 “Highland”

Looking at the presentation slides presented by Elon Musk, the three models are covered in white cloth. The CEO did not give any hints on what they will be but said that they are in the works.

“I think these are going to be pretty special,” Musk said.

From the slides, we can see two low-profile models, which could possibly be a sedan or even a coupe. New Model S or Roadster anyone? Tesla also has plans to reveal its long-waited robotaxi on August 8, so this could also be either one of them.

Tesla Model Y

Tesla said in April that it is speeding up the launch time of its new models, with more affordable models being part of the plan. The company said that they’re aiming to launch these products either by the end of this year (2024) or early next year (2025).

Even more interesting is another model in the lower left corner of the slides which appears to be tall with a boxy shape. Could this be either a large SUV or even Tesla’s first MPV? Well, these are merely our guesses at this point. Like Musk said, these could be “pretty special”. So we shall wait and see.

This teaser should come as gospel to the ears of Tesla fans and investors as Tesla’s lineup has gone stale for quite some time. As per industry analysts ‘ predictions, the company’s vehicle deliveries have also suffered a decline of 8.5% in Q1 2024. This isn’t great news for the brand as competition around Tesla, such as aggressive rivals like BYD and Hyundai has been giving the American EV-maker a rather fierce fight.

Tesla Cybertruck showcased in Malaysia

Closer to home, Tesla Malaysia has been showing quite some commitment by launching the Tesla Model 3 “Highland” as well as its sportier sibling, the Model 3 Performance, in the country as soon as they made their global debut. The Model Y, although still yet to receive any major update since its debut back in 2020 is also sold here in Malaysia. The SUV made its launch as the brand’s first model in our market.

The alien-looking Cybertruck was also showcased here in Malaysia on a couple of occasions, including at the recently held Malaysia Autoshow 2024. Don’t expect the car to be sold here, however, at least in the near future. But wouldn’t it be an interesting view to be seen on Malaysian roads if it were?

Anyhow, feeling excited about Tesla’s upcoming products? We’re certainly looking forward to seeing them uncovered! Do share your thoughts with us!
