2024 Mini Cooper SE EV to start at RM199k? Estimated pricing spotted at 2024 Malaysia Auto Show

Mini had a busy week at the 2024 Malaysia Auto Show, where they unveiled the all-new Mini Countryman (in both full EV and petrol-powered JCW guises) and the new Mini Cooper S – but the all-new fully-electric Mini Cooper SE was mysteriously absent at the show. It seems, though, that it wasn’t completely missing in action, as sharp-eyed show goers have spotted a document that could signal the electric hatch’s imminent arrival, and its estimated pricing.

A photo published onto the Malaysia EV Owners Club (MyEVOC) Facebook group allegedly shows an information sheet on a digital display stand at the Mini booth during the 2024 Malaysia Auto Show, containing details of both the petrol-powered Mini Cooper S, as well as the all-new fully-electric Mini Cooper SE. For the latter, the page also shows an estimated price of RM199,000.

Mini Malaysia has yet to officially announce the arrival of the fully-electric J01-generation Mini Cooper SE, although a cursory check on its website does indeed contain a teaser page for the model – albeit without any pricing information – hinting at a potential launch soon.

It’s important to take the estimated pricing information with a grain of salt, though, as it was clearly not meant to be displayed at the event, given that the car has not yet been shown publicly in Malaysia for whatever reason. But if the estimated pricing here is indeed accurate, the new Mini Cooper SE could make a case as the value buy in the segment, given its significant improvements over its predecessor, which is currently still available here in Malaysia at RM200,133.

The all-new Mini Cooper was debuted globally in September last year, as a result of a joint venture between Mini and Chinese carmaker Great Wall Motors. In the SE version, as tipped in the photo above, the fully-electric hatch gets a single motor on the front axle for a total output of 218 hp and 330 Nm, translating to a century sprint in under 6.7 seconds.

The SE variant also boasts significant range improvements over its predecessor, essentially doubling in electric range to now 402 km (WLTP), courtesy of its new larger 54.2 kWh battery pack. Inside, the all-new model also received a complete makeover, with the highlight being the circular OLED display in the centre that controls most of the vehicle’s functionalities.

While the petrol-powered Mini Cooper S does look largely similar to the all-new J01 Mini Cooper SE, the former is technically a heavy facelift of the outgoing model, as they are built on completely different platforms. The Mini Cooper S made its local debut at the 2024 Malaysia Auto Show, and is estimated to be priced at RM280,000.
