Honda HR-V facelift debuts in Japan – adaptive high beam, LED projectors, new taillights

The facelifted Honda HR-V (known as the Vezel in Japan) has just been unveiled in Japan. This update not only gives the HR-V some design updates but also refinement tweaks to its e:HEV hybrid powertrain.

On the outside, the Honda HR-V facelift in Japan comes with a redesigned front grille, and bumper, along with new taillights that give the SUV a more modern look. This is thanks to the red bar that runs across the back of it.

Looking at the press images, it seems like the facelifted HR-V has also gotten a pair of new projector LED headlights. Also new on the Japanese market HR-V facelift is the adaptive high beam (AHB) function.

Aside from the standard exterior equipment update, Honda Japan has also introduced two new special design packages with the HR-V facelift, namely the HuNT and PLaY packages. The HuNT Package gives the SUV a more rugged look with design elements such as roof rails, and wheels, as well as orange design highlights on the bumper. The PLaY Package on the other hand gives the HR-V a youthful look with colourful design highlights sprinkled around the car.

The HuNT Package

On the performance side of things, Honda has tweaked the HR-V e:HEV’s i-MMD hybrid powertrain. Honda claims this update to help reduce engine noise when driving around town, and also provide improved responsiveness from the powertrain.

It is not mentioned if the hybrid powertrain underneath the hood of the Honda HR-V facelift in Japan is subject to change. However, it is most likely that the facelifted SUV will retain the existing i-MMD 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine hybrid powertrain, which sports the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder i-VTEC engine that makes 107 hp and 131 Nm and an electric motor that provides 131 hp and 253 Nm on its own.

The PLaY Package

Customers at the Land of the Rising Sun will be able to purchase the facelifted Honda HR-V starting in Spring this year. Don’t expect the HR-V facelift with this exact design to come to Malaysia though, as the HR-V in Malaysia looks slightly different from the same car in other markets (it’s been made to look sportier to suit local consumers’ tastes).
