Video: BMW i5 eDrive40 vs Mercedes-Benz EQE 350+: Who made the better EV sedan?



With electrification now in full force across the automotive landscape, it’s perhaps unsurprising that even the exec-mobiles are getting the EV treatment too. Here in Malaysia, both the heavy hitters in the executive sedan markets, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, have already unveiled their fully-electric challengers: the i5 eDrive40 for BMW, and the EQE 350+ for Mercedes-Benz.

The two cars here share many similarities, including their price – The BMW i5 eDrive40 in Malaysia is priced at RM419,800, while the Mercedes-Benz EQE 350+ goes for RM419,888. They also share the same single rear motor setup, and both have fairly similar performance figures, with the Bimmer just eking out a win in its century sprint times taking just 6.0 seconds flat, while the EQE350+ comes in a smidge slower at 6.4 seconds.

But as always, there are some subtle differences between these two cars that might just make it or break it for you. The EQE350+ has better range and battery charging performance, while the i5 is undeniably the better car to drive between the two. And then, of course, there’s the design…
