2023 BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport launched in Malaysia – RM420k, 582km range

BMW Malaysia has launched the all-electric BMW i5 in Malaysia in a single variant and with a starting price of RM419,800. The single variant of the i5 is the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport.

The debut of the BMW i5 is essentially the debut of the all-new BMW 5 Series in Malaysia, albeit with different code names. The i5 is referred to as the G60e while the 5 series is referred to as the G60. With the launch of the BMW i5 in Malaysia, we could soon expect the debut of PHEV versions of the G60 all-new BMW 5 Series.

Compared to the outgoing 5 Series, the G60/G60e is slightly larger in every single dimension. The G60E BMW i5 measures 5,060 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,515 mm tall (for the eDrive40). Its wheelbase measures 2,995 mm long, which is also longer than that of its predecessor.

The G60E BMW i5 sports a much simpler overall design, with less drama on the sides and a simpler-looking front end. Trend-wise, it does follow in the footsteps of the latest 2 Series Coupe.

Standard exterior equipment on the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport include:

  • 21-inch wheels Style 954 wheels in bi-colour jet black
  • LED Headlights
  • LED taillights

Inside, the i5’s cabin design follows in the footsteps of its bigger brother, the i7 with the implementation of the interaction bar. It isn’t a direct copy, however, as the interaction bar in the i5/5 Series is broken up between the driver and front passenger sides. As per modern-day BMWs, the i5’s cabin sports a twin display for the head unit and digital instrument cluster.

Standard interior equipment in the i5 eDrive40 include:

  • 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 14.9-inch touchscreen head unit

  • Interaction bar
  • Wireless mobile phone charger
  • 2 USB-C ports for first row
  • 2 USB-C ports for second row
