Video: The true C63 successor? 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLA45S review

Think AMG, and the first car to come to mind is probably the C63 – you know, that C63. But today’s Mercedes-AMG C63 is far from what its forefathers used to be – whether it’s looks, weight, or even cylinder count. So should there be a new default AMG? We think the 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLA45S might just fit the bill – watch our review below to find out why!

The new 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLA45S is now available in Malaysia officially from Mercedes-Benz Malaysia directly, priced from RM527,888 on-the-road and without insurance. Unveiled late last year, the facelift model here brings along several minor aesthetic tweaks, including new light signatures and new wheel designs, alongside a slightly revised equipment list.

The main party piece of the CLA45S, however, is indubitably its powertrain. Not only does it have one of the most powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine currently in mass production today, with the turbocharged firecracker making some 421 hp and 500 Nm, it also has perhaps one of the best all-wheel drive systems in the market that makes putting down all that power as easy as just pinning your foot to the ground.

Despite being all-wheel drive, the CLA45S is actually surprisingly playful, too. For every step you move up the drive modes, the tail end also becomes progressively livelier, all the way up to full-on drift when you enable ‘Drift Mode’.

And to top it all off, it also has space for four adults (or five, if you’re okay with being slightly cramped), and a bigger boot than even the C-Class. Is this not the complete package?
