Proton S70: 3,818 units sold in 2024, Malaysia’s best-selling C-segment saloon

Proton has just announced its sales figures for February 2024 and together with that, it also announced that 3,818 units of the Proton S70 have been sold so far this year. In February alone, 2,314 units were sold, making it the best-selling C-segment saloon in Malaysia.

Interestingly, the sales of the Proton S70 in February exceeded that of the more affordable Proton Persona which recorded 1,859 units sold. Proton’s best-selling saloon still remains the Saga with 6,212 units sold in February 2024.

The Proton S70 was launched back in November 2023, with 4 variants offered – Executive, Premium, Flagship, and Flagship X. Prices for the S70 start at RM73,800 for the base Executive variant and top off at RM94,800 for the Flagship X variant.

All 4 variants of the Proton S70 are powered by the same 1.5-litre turbocharged MPI engine which makes 150 hp and 226 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed DCT and power is sent to the front wheels only.

Although compared against the likes of the Toyota Vios and the Honda City in terms of pricing, the Proton S70 is referred to as a C-segment saloon by Proton. Thus it competes against the likes of the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla Altis.

Proton Deputy CEO, Roslan Abdullah, “Proton has continued its positive trajectory in the second month of the year with sales underpinned by consistent domestic demand as well as increasing export growth. Therefore, our export markets will be an important area of growth in 2024 and we also have high expectations for the Proton S70 to dominate its segment as deliveries continue to ramp up in the coming months. Having extended our footprint across many countries, we will continue to work diligently to bring Proton models to greater heights in these export markets as we see them as having the potential to grow our sales significantly in the long term.”
