Mitsubishi Xpander HEV launched in Thailand, new 1.6L hybrid powertrain

The Mitsubishi Xpander HEV has been launched in Thailand, together with the Xpander Cross HEV. Prices start at THB912,000 (approx. RM121,741) for the Xpander HEV and THB946,000 (approx. RM126,280) for the Xpander Cross HEV.

This is the first time the Mitsubishi Xpander receives a hybrid option and a new engine has also found its way into the budget 7-seater crossover. The new engine is a 1.6-litre petrol engine that makes 95 hp and 134 Nm on its own. Combined with the electric motor, the Xpander HEV outputs 116 hp and 255 Nm.

The hybrid powertrain sends power to the front wheels only and is referred to as “e:MOTION” by the company. It offers 7 driving modes which include Normal Mode, Wet Mode, Gravel Mode, Tarmac Mode, Mud Mode, EV Mode, and Charge Mode. The Xpander HEV is also equipped with Active Yaw Control (AYC).

Mitsubishi has not specified both the hybrid battery capacity and the electric range of the Xpander HEV. The company, however, is offering a 5-year/unlimited mileage hybrid system warranty and a 10-year/unlimited mileage hybrid battery warranty. The hybrid system has also reportedly increased the car’s overall weight by 165 kg.

Unique to the exterior of the Mitsubishi Xpander HEV are blue accents on the sides and wheels, and “HEV” badges on the front doors. While it may look significantly different than the Xpander that we have in Malaysia right now, it is virtually identical to the Xpander facelift which is already available in Thailand. Exterior highlights include the 17-inch wheels and chrome trims.

Inside, the Mitsubishi Xpander HEV gets a new gear selector, a unique steering wheel, and an exclusive digital instrument cluster that are not found in the non-hybrid Xpander. Among its interior highlights are a 9-inch touchscreen head unit, a 6-speaker sound system, and an electric parking brake with auto hold.

With the Xpander HEV launched in Thailand, will it be made available in Malaysia too?
