Smart #1 receives 1,000 bookings in Malaysia, almost doubled since launch



With bookings open since the end of August this year, the Smart #1 has hit 1,000 bookings in Malaysia in a bit over 3 months. The compact crossover electric vehicle (EV) was said to have exceeded 500 bookings during its launch on November 21 and the numbers have now almost doubled.

Smart Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Zhang Qiang said, “The success of smart #1 reflects not only the excellence of our product but also our dedication to providing a seamless and enjoyable ownership experience. The comprehensive warranty coverage, complimentary packages, and the smartCharge Home Charger offer are a testament to our commitment to customer satisfaction. Delivery is also a pivotal aspect, and our team is diligently working to ensure timely delivery of cars to our valued customers”.

Upon its launch in Malaysia, the Smart #1 debuted with 3 variants – Pro, Premium, and Brabus. Prices for the Smart #1 start at RM189,000 for the Pro variant and top off at RM249,000 for the Brabus variant. Bookings for the Smart #1 have been open since the end of August.

Those looking for an entry-level premium EV may opt for the Smart #1 Pro which comes with a small 49 kWh LFP battery pack that provides 315 km of range. The Premium and Brabus variants utilize a larger 66 kWh ternary battery that provides 440 km and 400 km of range respectively.

Both the Pro and Premium variants are driven by a single electric motor that turns the rear wheels. Both variants have the same performance figures at 272 hp (metric) and 343 Nm and both do the century sprint in 6.7 seconds. Those looking for something more performance-oriented may want the Smart #1 Brabus which makes 428 hp and 543 Nm from a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup. The Brabus does the century sprint in just 3.9 seconds.

With bookings for the Smart #1 exceeding 1,000 units, the EV is seeing positive response from Malaysians. The Smart #1 reintroduces the Smart brand in Malaysia which is now owned by both Geely Holding and Mercedes-Benz. In Malaysia, Smart is officially distributed by Pro-Net which is a new energy subsidiary of Proton.
