BYD begins OTA update for wireless Android Auto on Atto 3, Dolphin in Malaysia

BYD has reportedly begun a gradual rollout of its latest over-the-air (OTA) software update in Malaysia, which includes new wireless Android Auto connectivity on the Atto 3 and Dolphin’s central infotainment system, a check with owners revealed.

The gradual software update rollout does mean that not every BYD electric vehicle in Malaysia will get the feature just yet, although several owners have reported that a manual software update at BYD service centres has also enabled the feature on their cars.

Android Auto connectivity has been a long-awaited feature in the BYD Atto 3 and Dolphin models. While the feature was mentioned in the former’s official brochure for Malaysia since the model’s launch, it was stated that it will only be available in “Q2 2023” – but that too has come and gone. The BYD Dolphin’s official brochure has omitted the feature completely.

According to CarExpert, the feature was added to the BYD Atto 3 in Australia in May via an OTA software update.

Apple CarPlay, on the other hand, has been available on the BYD Atto 3 and Dolphin since launch here in Malaysia, although they both still require a wired connection. The new Android Auto connectivity supports wireless connection via the on-board 5GHz Wi-Fi, although owners have reported that the system does require their mobile phones to be paired via Bluetooth again.

According to various posts on the BYD Owners Club Malaysia Facebook page, the new software update has also added the ability to turn off the daytime-running lights.
