Want that pink BYD Dolphin? ‘Cute’ colours available via special order in Malaysia

The BYD Dolphin is perhaps one of the most unique-looking EVs now available in Malaysia, thanks to its compact hatchback silhouette and ocean-inspired styling features. That said, some of our lady readers (or gentlemen – no judgement here!) might be left a little disappointed when they find out that the headlining pink and purple colour options were not listed in the compact hatchback’s brochure.

Fret not, though, as Sime Darby Beyond Auto has confirmed that the more vibrant colour options are still available via special order for Malaysian customers.

Speaking at a media event earlier today, Sime Darby Beyond Auto head of sales and distribution, Calvin Sze-Tho, explained that the colours were left off of the brochure as market research has indicated that interest for these colours will be low. Compounded with the limited production for these colours, the company has decided against importing them at scale, at least at launch.

However, customers who would like their BYD Dolphin in these colours – specifically Coral Pink (two-tone on Premium variant), Taro Purple (Dynamic variant exclusive), and Surf Blue + Urban Grey (Premium exclusive) – can still place a booking via special order, with no extra cost for the special hues.

Sze-Tho adds that the waiting period for the special colour will not differ much from the standard options, ranging from one to two months depending on availability.

The BYD Dolphin was recently launched in Malaysia as one of the cheapest EVs currently on sale in Malaysia, with the Dynamic Standard Range variant coming in at a price of RM100,530 on-the-road, without insurance. Electric range varies from 340-427 km, depending on variant.

Aside from better performance and more range, the Premium Extended Variant also stands out with its two-tone colour offerings, and more creature comforts inside the cabin, including a panoramic sunroof and ventilated front seats.
