We’re finally getting a sedan from the Proton-Geely partnership – the 2023 Proton S70. It has already been open for bookings and now there is more official information about the car. Let us share this with you alongside pictures of the range-topping “Flagship X” variant.

  • Proton S70 Executive
  • Proton S70 Premium
  • Proton S70 Flagship
  • Proton S70 Flagship X

First things first, there are 4 variants of the Proton S70, starting with the “Executive” variant. Yes, there is no “Standard” variant for the S70 sedan.

We’ll get into the variant equipment tier in just a bit, but let’s first address what the Proton S70 is. According to Proton, it is a C-segment saloon that is meant to rival the likes of the Honda Civic. We’ll leave it up to you whether to accept that classification or not. The fact is, the Proton S70 is built on Geely’s B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA), just like the Geely Emgrand that it is based on.

Its size? No official measurements from Proton yet, but the Geely Emgrand measures 4,638 mm in length, 1,822 mm in width, 1,460 mm in height, with a wheelbase that measures 2,650 mm long. It is slightly smaller than the Honda Civic.

As for the propulsion system, the Proton S70 shares the same 1.5-litre turbocharged MPI engine as the lower variants of the Proton X50. With that, the Proton S70’s technical details and performance figures are as such:

Proton hasn’t hinted at whether or not the S70 will eventually be equipped with the TGDI version of the 1.5-litre mill. The company also has yet to reveal official fuel consumption figures of the S70, but if the information we’re getting from their engineers is anything to go by, the S70 reportedly has a fuel consumption of 6.2 l/100km.

Proton’s engineers have also shared that the suspension of the S70 has been tuned for Malaysian roads. No multi-link suspension setup here (unlike the X90), but the spring rate has been adjusted – reportedly higher at the front and lower at the back (in comparison to the Geely Emgrand).
