Video: 2023 Tesla Model 3 ‘Highland’ facelift in Malaysia – can it threaten premium car brands?

With the debut of Tesla in Malaysia, used EV prices are hitting an all-time low in Malaysia. That’s just how big of an impact it has had on the Malaysian EV market. Now there’s a second “disruptive” EV from Tesla in Malaysia (after the Model Y) and it is the Tesla Model 3 ‘Highland’. What’s the fuss about the Tesla Model 3? Follow Eu Jin as he explores this EV made by the American non-carmaker.

Tesla Malaysia launched the Tesla Model 3 just last month together with the opening of its new showroom in Pavilion Damansara Heights. There are two variants of the Tesla Model 3 – the rear-wheel drive (RWD) at RM189,000 and the Long Range all-wheel drive (AWD) at RM218,000. Here’s our first look (and drive) of the Model 3 Long Range AWD…

Buying a Tesla is like buying an Air Asia flight ticket so you’ll have to understand that the Model 3’s base price includes very limited offerings – i.e. only one color option and without the enhanced autopilot system. So we reckon you head to their model configuration page to truly gauge how much your Model 3 would cost should you choose to buy one.

The variant names of the Model 3 are self-explanatory. The RWD is RWD with a single motor while the Long Range AWD is AWD with dual motors and with a longer range.

As for the Model 3 Long Range AWD, it has an electric range of 629 km. The dual-motor setup launches the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. To charge, the Model 3 Long Range AWD offers a faster maximum DC charging speed of 250 kW.

Some say the Tesla Model 3 ‘Highland’ is the premium car killer, but is it really? Follow Eu Jin in this video to find out more…
