Proton & Gentari launch DC charger at Centre of Excellence – 100kW, RM2.40/min

Proton and Gentari have launched a new DC fast charger for electric vehicles (EVs) at the Proton Centre of Excellence located along the KESAS highway. The DC charger installed by Gentari is precisely located in the customer parking area of the Proton Crystal Showroom.

The DC charging station features a shade bearing the Proton branding while the charging tower consists of 2 charging guns and sports the Gentari colours. As for the charging speed, the charger can output up to 100 kW when only one charging gun is in use and up to 50 kW when both charging guns are in use. The cost for charging is listed at RM2.40 per minute on the Setel app, JomCharge, and chargeEV app.

Proton Deputy CEO, Roslan Abdullah said, “With our imminent entry into Malaysia’s EV market via smart Malaysia just around the corner, the time is right for PROTON to take another step into this rapidly growing segment. We are grateful to have a dynamic partner like Gentari, who have installed the first on-site DC charger at our headquarters and look forward to more such collaborations in the future within our dealer network.”

Gentari Deputy CEO and Gentari Green Mobility CEO, Shah Yang Razalli said, “We are thrilled to take the next step in our strategic partnership with Proton with the launch of a network of charging facilities to support Proton’s imminent entry into Malaysia’s EV market. Together with Proton, a likeminded national carmaker, our combined efforts can further accelerate the green mobility movement, setting Malaysia on the right path in its energy transition journey. Stay tuned for more initiatives coming out of this strong partnership.”

Proton and Gentari have both signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) back in October 2022. Since then, both companies have explored various solutions concerning Malaysia’s EV charging network. One of it being the portable charging station that utilizes the Proton Exora which is capable of charging EVs with speeds of up to 30 kW.

Pro-Net (Proton’s subsidiary) is also collaborating with Gentari to install fast chargers at several Proton dealerships. Five additional Gentari DC chargers are set to be installed by the end of 2023 as part of the first phase of the program, with a target of twenty dealerships.

Roslan Abdullah adds, “Proton has committed to producing our own EV models, a process started by the launch of the mild-hybrid Proton X90, our first new energy vehicle (NEV). This will be followed by more models featuring hybrid technology in the coming years.”

“At the same time, we are collaborating with our partners to grow the national charging infrastructure and support our customers. Additionally, we are using connected apps such as the recently launched Hello smart app, which opens access to 70% of the national charging map, to offer convenience to smart owners”.
