Maserati MC20 Cielo launched in Malaysia, from RM1.2m before tax

Cielo is the Italian word for sky and with that, you can pretty much guess what the Maserati MC20 Cielo is. It is an open-top version of the Maserati MC20 and it has now been launched in Malaysia – all yours for a price tag of RM1,228,000 before taxes, duties, and options.

The Maserati MC20 Cielo made its debut back in May 2022, essentially introducing a second version of the MC20 (the first is a coupe). Soon, Maserati will unveil the Maserati MC20 Folgore which is an all-electric version of the MC20, but that’s a topic for another day. In front of you today is the MC20 Cielo which, according to Maserati, sports the epitome of technology – an electrically retractable glass roof.

Like the MC20 coupe, the Maserati MC20 Cielo’s chassis is made of carbon fibre and composite materials. This makes the entire car considerably light at 1,540 kg. As for its dimensions, the Maserati MC20 measures 4.7 m long, 2.2 m wide, and 1.2 m tall.

As for design, the MC20 Cielo is all function over form with the exception of the butterfly doors which are meant to have some flare – they do help to show off the carbon fibre chassis. The wheels are 20 inches in size and you can opt for different wheel designs.

As for the retractable roof of the CM20 Cielo, Maserati says that it has only added 65 kg to the overall weight in comparison to the coupe. The company also assures that no compromise has been made in terms of handling even with the lack of a top part of the body.

Powering the Maserati MC20 Cielo is a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbocharged engine that outputs 630hp and 730 Nm. The engine is referred to as the Nettuno engine and it is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Power is sent to the rear wheels only and the MC20 Cielo is capable of a century sprint time of about 3.0 seconds. The full technical and performance overview of the Maserati MC20 Cielo is as follows:

  • Engine: 3.0-litre V6 twin turbo twin spark engine
  • Maximum power output: 630 hp @7,500 rpm
  • Maximum torque: 730 Nm @3,000-5,500 rpm
  • Redline: 8,000 rpm
  • Transmission: 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT)
  • Drivetrain: rear-wheel drive (RWD)
  • 0-100 km/h: approximately 3.0 seconds
  • 0-200 km/h: 9.2 seconds
  • Top Speed: >320 km/h

As for the cabin, the MC20 Cielo features a 10-inch head unit and a 10-inch digital instrument cluster. The interior is spartan with a very minimalist centre console that houses one wireless mobile phone charger, the gear selector, drive mode selector, a small armrest storage, and one cupholder.

The engine start button is placed on the steering wheel and so is the launch control button. Speaking of the steering wheel, it has been designed with a thicker girth for better ergonomics.

The MC20 also features a wide range of Active Safety Systems. As well as the parking sensors, rear-view camera and blind spot monitoring included in the MC20 since the MY22, the new spyder introduces autonomous emergency brake, traffic sign information and a new 360° camera.

The Maserati MC20 Cielo is priced from RM 1,228,000.00 before local duties and taxes, customization options, and insurance. The price includes 3 years of Standard Warranty coverage with no mileage restriction plus a Free maintenance program of 3 years/ 60,000 km whichever comes first (Inclusive of *Maserati Premium Service Plus of 3 Years /60,000 km).
