Mercedes-Benz Malaysia supports Budget 2024, to launch 1 more EV after EQS SUV this year

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has published a release, stating its support towards the 2024 budget tabled by the Malaysian government last week. As explained by the company, Budget 2024 aligns with Mercedes-Benz’s global mission, Ambition 2039, a comprehensive strategy aimed at addressing climate protection and reducing air pollution.

With that, Mercedes-Benz aims to have 50% of its lineup electrified by 2025, encompassing both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV). Moving forward, the carmaker is also prepared to transition from an “Electric First” approach to “Electric Only” whenever market conditions allow. By 2039, Mercedes-Benz aims to achieve its overarching goal of net CO2 neutrality along the entire value chain.

Over the past two years, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched various EV models in the country, contributing to the brand’s current line-up of seven EV model variants. The company has also achieved a significant milestone in the EV space with the local assembly of the Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4MATIC.

The brand will also be launching the long-awaited Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV this Friday. Prior to this, the luxury EV SUV made its first public appearance in Malaysia at this year’s Merdeka Parade.

The car was entirely covered in a Merdeka-themed wrap and sported AMG Line wheels and an AMG line grille. Also spotted on the car are its panoramic sunroof and rear axle steering, which are both present on the EQS sedan.

When officially launched in Malaysia, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV will join the existing EQ electric series lineup, which includes the EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE, and the EQS sedan. Also available in Malaysia are the Mercedes-AMG EQ models which consist of the EQE 53 and EQS 53.

Aside from the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also plans to launch another all-electric model in the country before the end of this year. Could this be its younger sibling, the EQE SUV? We will have to wait and see, as registration of interest (ROI) for the SUV has been opened on Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s website since June this year.

The company also understands that achieving a sustainable future is a collaborative endeavour that extends beyond itself and the automotive industry. The process requires forging new partnerships among automakers, suppliers, the energy sector, policymakers and society at large.

In this context, Mercedes-Benz is also pleased to see the inclusion of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) in the budget. This roadmap focuses on key drivers, such as new energy sources and green mobility, and offers a clear path toward a more sustainable future. The roadmap also emphasizes the importance of green and clean energy solutions in Malaysia.
