BMW Group Malaysia welcomes Budget 2024, delivered over 1,700 EVs in 8 months this year

BMW Group Malaysia has released a statement, welcoming the newly announced allocations in Budget 2024, which underpin the government’s commitment to the carmaker’s shared vision of electrification and sustainability. The company also mentioned that the government’s effort to boost the development of the local electric vehicle (EV) industry and promote public acceptance of EV usage represents positive measures that are expected to enhance the pace of EV adoption in the nation.

BMW Group Malaysia sees the need to accelerate the adoption of EVs as a greener and more efficient solution to transportation as crucial. To this end, it believes the government’s decision to extend individual income tax relief on EV charging facility expenses and tax deductions for EV rental costs comes as an important step in the process of marching towards a future of an electrified Malaysia.

With the launch of BMW’s various all-electric i-series models in Malaysia, the brand has taken the lead as the country’s number one premium EV provider. In just eight months this year, the company has delivered over 1,700 units of BMW and MINI EV models.

BMW Group Malaysia’s longstanding partnerships with various energy solutions providers have also allowed it to continue its effort in expanding its BMW i Charging network. Thanks to its partners, which include Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), EV Connection (JomCharge), Siemens, Gentari, and Leader EV, the network now consists of over 1,000 charging facilities across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.

The carmaker launched its new EV mobile charging service last month at its House of Forwardism event in Kuala Lumpur. The service features mobile chargers housed by repurposed vehicles such as the Proton Exora MPV, carrying a 30 kWh battery pack, with the capability of delivering outputs of up to 30 kW DC.

The company has also increased its investment in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. This is done by nurturing a top-tier workforce that is well-prepared for the era of EVs via its BMW High Voltage Expert certification program.
