New BMW iX2 & X2 teased in Fortnite, real life launch on October 11

BMW’s upcoming all-electric SUV, the BMW iX2 has been teased in the Fortnite video game’s Car Creator. The BMW iX2 essentially also previews the new X2 as well. It has also been revealed that the German carmaker’s new SUV will be making its launch on October 11.

The BMW iX2 can be found in a virtual city of the future created by BMW Group using the island “Hypnopolis”, which Fortnite players can explore. In a previous teaser BMW released for the iX2, we were only (barely) able to see the car’s front fascia and side, albeit in shadowy form.

Now with Fortnite, its front end has (somewhat) been fully revealed for the first time, being in animation form. Details of the BMW X2 and iX2 that were teased previously such as the illuminated grilles can be seen in the game as well.

There is also a storyline centred around the new BMW iX2 in the virtual city, and it comes with various challenges for gamers to participate in. The “Hypnopolis” island also incorporates BMW Group’s iconic landmarks such as the “Four Cylinder” building, the BMW Museum, as well as the BMW Welt.

Under the double cone in BMW Welt is where players will be able to find the Car Creator, which BMW Group claims is the first in Fortnite. The carmaker has also integrated its subtle brandings into numerous Easter Eggs and other game elements.

As the “Hypnopolis” map launches today (October 4, 2023), the new BMW iX2 will still show up in prototype disguise in the Car Creator. Players can also choose from a limited palette of gamified paint schemes, wheels, and interior options.

After October 11, 2023, the series paint finishes, series rims, and interior options for the new BMW iX2 will then also be available in the Car Creator. The Island Code to enter the “Hypnopolis” island is: 3541-0917-2429. Also, the German carmaker did point out that it created the virtual city as well as the virtual iX2 on its own, without assistance from the game developer, Epic Games.

The upcoming BMW X2 and iX2 will both be built on the brand’s FAAR platform, which also underpins its siblings such as the X1 and 2 Series Gran Coupe. In terms of powertrain, we can also expect the X2 to sport a similar selection of turbocharged petrol engines, all with some form of electrification included.

The iX2 on the other hand could also feature a similar powertrain line-up to the iX1. This includes a single-motor eDrive20 variant with 204 hp, as well as the xDrive30 dual-motor set-up, which puts out 313 hp.
