Together with the August sales performance of the company, Proton has also issued a follow-up regarding the Proton X90 grounding issue. Due to the grounding recall, production of the Proton X90 experienced a minor delay, although the situation is expected to return to normal this month.
Just to recap, a video of a Proton X90 catching fire in the trunk area surfaced recently on various social media platforms and sparked concern among X90 buyers and pretty much everyone else. Proton later took the car in for investigation and identified a grounding issue to cause the incident. Proton immediately issued a recall for the Proton X90 to rectify the grounding issue.

Proton assures its customers that the hybrid battery of the Proton X90 was not the cause of the fire. Through its nationwide 3S and 4S centres, Proton has reached out to X90 customers.
The Proton X90 was launched in May this year and is offered in 4 variants – Standard, executive, Premium, and Flagship. The Proton X90 is the brand’s first hybrid car and as such, many were quick to speculate that the hybrid battery was the cause of the fire in the viral video.
Besides being the brand’s first hybrid car, the Proton X90 also brings many Proton-first features to its customers. Some of these include rear-cross traffic alert (RCTA), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), traffic sign information (TSI), and walk-away lock function.
Available as both a 6-seater (Flagship) and a 7-seater (Standard, Executive, Premium), the Proton X90 is priced from RM123,800 for the base Standard variant up to RM152,800 for the Flagship variant. The Proton X90 indirectly replaces the Proton Exora as the large family car from the brand.
